I first met Douglas in 2009 when he came to visit his B.C. Longboarding family in Vancouver. With him was an entourage of great Brazilian riders that also just happened to dominate the events they entered that summer. Dalua left Canada that year as humble as when he arrived, but with new friendships, a Danger Bay Champ title and stories that would be cherished for a lifetime.
Since that year many things have happened in Longboarding. Most notably is the evidence that progressive industry leaders are truly backing up riders in their squad. The list of downhillers that are able to go skateboarding abroad is not an extensive one, but their are some fortunate ones that get the support they need to fulfill their skate-travel dreams (without ending up broke at the end of the season). Any one rider can travel around the world, but with proper funding from companies that believe, Dalua was able to travel the globe to fulfill his racing efforts. Zeppellin ‘Filmes’ (Brazil), Rayne Longboards (Canada) and Abec11 Wheels (USA) just to name a few. We’re honored to be assist with the Screening!
For the past 10 years we’ve seen videos released that where called films, but were not. We’ve also seen short vids from races all over the world, but they were usually 5 minute Skate-porn vids, with no story. It’s not going to be last time that world travel downhill skateboarding will be covered, But Dalua Downhill is an awesome stepping stone for future film companies to piggy back on. The greatest compliment would be for other companies to make “the dream” a reality.
Come join us at Rayne Longboards for never before seen footage of the Dalua Downhuill Series. Admission is free and the party will be even better! Get their early to make sure you have a spot to enjoy the screening. If you want to get caught up to speed on the Series, check it out here.
